A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with former mentor Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court from spring of that year.

Victory also signifies he has won 21 victories at twenty-one various competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to question if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to create a third set.

He rescued four initial break points in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
